  • Goodbye Year 11

    Fri 16 Jun 2023 N. Elliott

Saying goodbye to any Year 11 cohort is always bittersweet.  After spending so much time working with the children and building relationships, it is almost with parental pride that we watch them grow from children in to young men and women.  I have been particularly struck with this current cohort, many of whom have had to overcome so much to make it to, and then get through, their exams.

Whatever the future hold for our current cohort, I am filled with hope and pride.  I have been impressed with their hard work, resilience and determination to succeed through the exams period and I will be eternally thankful for their gratitude and respect.

So I would like to wish Year 11 well, whatever their future endeavours and hope that they remember their time with us with fondness.

    Mr. Elliott

  • Charity News!

    Wed 14 Jun 2023 K Black

NESSSS likes to support local charities and we use charity events each term to raise as much as we can.  During the Hersham Christmas Fayre this year, the students were able to raise money for their chosen Charities.

Walton Charities are a local organisation helping the disadvantaged in the Elmbridge area.  The picture below shows their appreciation for the efforts of our students.

A huge thank you for all the students that took part, we know you enjoyed organising the event, it's just fantastic that we were all able to "give back" as well!

  • Walton Firs - May 2023

    Thu 18 May 2023 C Sacha

Thursday 18th May was one to remember for our NESSSS students as they made their annual trip to Walton Firs outdoor activity centre.  This trip was open to all years (except for those Year 11s stuck in exams of course!) The students were excellent and took part in a variety of activities such as rifle shooting and high ropes courses.

It was brilliant to see the students enjoying themselves, with several commenting that they had never been on a school trip before!

A huge thank you to all the staff that took part and we will all look forward to our trip to the seaside in July!

    Miss Sacha

  • Cracking Coronation

    Fri 05 May 2023 C Sacha

The students and staff have been building towards the King's Coronation this week.  The students made food for the occasion, including coronation chicken baps and royal fairy cakes.  Activities included a quiz surrounding the ascension and traditional games such as bingo and croquet.

Overall, a brilliant afternoon, superbly organised by Miss Sacha and Mrs Black

Well done all, enjoy the weekend!

  • Fantastic Food Exam!

    Wed 08 Mar 2023 C Sacha

A fantastic effort from our Hersham cohort today completing their practical examination in BTEC Home Cooking Skills.  Each pupil showcased their skills planning and preparing a two-course home cooked meal in an hour and a half.  They all showed perseverance and integrity throughout and produced some excellent food.

I'm very proud of them and what they have achieved this year so far.

well done Year 11, Keep it up!

  • Information regarding Strike Action

    Fri 27 Jan 2023 N. Elliott

The following information has been shared with parents regarding the forthcoming NEU strike action:

"You may be aware from media coverage that The National Education Union (NEU) have declared strike action, which will take place on:

    ●    Wednesday 1st February 2023
    ●    Thursday 2nd March 2023
    ●    Wednesday 15th March 2023
    ●    Thursday 16th March 2023

The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teachers’ pay, and not because of any issues at our school.

I’m getting in touch to confirm that North East Surrey Short Stay School will be open as usual on the above dates. Please send your child in as normal.

If the situation changes and we are compelled to close the school due to staff shortages, we will be in touch. If you do not hear from us (about this matter) again, school will remain open as normal."

If anyone has any further question regarding this, please contact reception at the relevant site to your child.

  • NESSSS reach new heights

    Mon 23 Jan 2023 D Gunn

On Monday 23rd January, all pupils from the Hersham site travelled down to the Excel centre for an afternoons activity on the climbing wall. After harnessing up, our pupils split into two groups and worked on a variety of different wall routes on the 12.5 metre high wall. With the vast majority of pupils making it all the way to the top and taking on some very challenging routes, it was great to see our pupils taking themselves out of their comfort zones. There were 1v1 races to the top and the opportunity to races against the clock on one wall, with the fastest time being just 10 seconds! Even the staff joined in with Mr Gunn and Mr Akar taking to the wall to show the students how not to do it. A brilliant afternoon had by all.

  • Return to School!

Tue 03 Jan 2023 Mr Elliott

    Happy New Year!

The school will be open for students from 9am on Wednesday 3rd January 2023.  We are expecting all students to attend in full school uniform.

Those who attend vocational provision, should have been contacted by your transport services to make sure you are aware of the required days and times.  Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have not heard anything at this stage.

We are all looking forward to seeing you next week in preparation for another successful year!
